Romania is a fantastic expedition which is now running in its 4th year, which shows that it is a project that really works year after year. The expedition works closely with Future Sense Foundation, a charity dedicated to ethical volunteering which works with NGO’s around the world to create sustainable projects enabling the development of local communities. The expedition lasts for 4 weeks, 2 of which will be spent running a summer camp for children under the care of the state, and the other 2 renovating the children’s homes. This truly is an incredible opportunity, as working with children is very rewarding..

Renovating includes anything from mixing cement, laying floors, painting murals and glossing skirting boards. Absolutely anyone can get involved, whether you are a total beginner or a DIY fanatic, and it makes the bedrooms a much brighter and happier place for the children to live in.

At the summer camp you would be running a variety of planned activities including anything from arts and crafts to sport, which means that if you have a speciality you have the flexibility to bring it to the project. I can’t stress enough how valuable the summer camp is for the children as it gives them one on one attention that they are lacking from their everyday lives. The children are very keen to learn English so you will get plenty of opportunities to teach whilst you are out there, whilst potentially even learning some Romanian! More than anything though this project is a LOT of fun and will definitely brighten up yours and the children’s summer!

We are looking for pro-active individuals who are keen to work with children and young adults and share our aims; to educate mentor and support vulnerable children and improve their living conditions and outlook!

Whilst you aren’t working on the project, there are lots of opportunities to explore the local area at the weekend. In previous years activities have included horse riding, paragliding, working with other local children, music festivals, trips to medieval cities, Draculas castle, trekking and much, much more, all of which are very flexible!

The brilliant thing about Romania is that it has a much lower fundraising cost then the other expeditions, so it really means that anyone can get involved whilst still making a huge impact on the lives of children in Romania. There is also so much support for fundraising so do not fear, there is always help about! Romania is also entirely project based apart from the weekend excursions, which means that you really are going out there for the project and to make a difference to the children out there and give them a great summer not to be forgotten!
